We are seeking a Senior Chief Estimator with a minimum of 10 years of experience in commercial construction estimating. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in preparing and securing bids for public and private sector projects, including Merx, Government of Canada contracts, City of Ottawa tenders, and other commercial projects. A valid security clearance is required for this position. Residential/multi-unit estimation experience is an asset.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and pursue commercial construction bidding opportunities in both the public and private sectors. 
  • Review tender documents, project specifications, and contract requirements. 
  • Prepare accurate and competitive cost estimates for various construction projects. 
  • Lead and manage the estimating team, ensuring efficiency and high-quality submissions. 
  • Develop relationships with subcontractors, suppliers, and key stakeholders to obtain the best pricing and terms. 
  • Analyze and assess project risks, identifying potential cost-saving opportunities. 
  • Work closely with project managers, architects, and engineers to develop accurate pricing strategies. 
  • Oversee bid submissions, ensuring compliance with client and regulatory requirements. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of industry trends, construction materials, and cost fluctuations.

Qualifications & Requirements 

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in construction estimating, with a focus on commercial projects. 
  • Security clearance (or the ability to obtain one). 
  • Strong knowledge of Merx, City of Ottawa tenders, Government of Canada procurement processes, and other commercial bidding platforms. 
  • Proficiency in estimating software such as Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Procore, or equivalent tools. 
  • In-depth understanding of construction methodologies, contracts, and building codes. 
  • Excellent leadership, negotiation, and communication skills. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities. 
  • Ability to manage multiple bids simultaneously under tight deadlines. 
  • Professional certifications such as PQS (Professional Quantity Surveyor), Gold Seal Certification, or equivalent are considered an asset.
